Protaras
is located on the South East Coast of Cyprus,
less than a one hour drive from Larnaca International
Airport and 12km from the popular resort of Ayia Napa.

Prior
to it being a tourist resort, Protaras was uninhabited and the area
was mainly covered with windmills, some of which still stand, adding
to the character of the landscape. Excavations have uncovered various
artefacts which suggest Protaras was once the town of Lefkola which
had a busy port.

There
are beautiful beaches at Protaras, the most well known being that
of Fig Tree Bay. The resort has been
awarded the EC Blue Flag for the excellent quality of its beaches
with golden sand and clean vivid turquoise waters.

There
are many water sports
available at the main beach, including water skiing, jet skis, parasailing,
banana boat, fly fish, and many various inflatables which are pulled
by speed boats. Sunbeds and parasols are available for hire. There
are twice daily boat trips available from the beachfront which travel
to Cape Greco and Famugusta.

The
family friendly resort centre has a vast array of shops, restaurants
and bars, many which are themed. A wide selection of food catering
for all tastes are available including fast food, traditional Cypriot
cuisine and many other international food such as Mexican, Japanese,
Chinese and Indian.

Protaras
caters largely for package holidays, which is evident from the large
hotels situated along the beach front.
