Protaras is located on the South East Coast of Cyprus, less than a one hour drive from Larnaca International Airport and 12km from the popular resort of Ayia Napa.
Prior to it being a tourist resort, Protaras was uninhabited and the area was mainly covered with windmills, some of which still stand, adding to the character of the landscape. Excavations have uncovered various artefacts which suggest Protaras was once the town of Lefkola which had a busy port.
There are beautiful beaches at Protaras, the most well known being that of Fig Tree Bay. The resort has been awarded the EC Blue Flag for the excellent quality of its beaches with golden sand and clean vivid turquoise waters.
There are many water sports available at the main beach, including water skiing, jet skis, parasailing, banana boat, fly fish, and many various inflatables which are pulled by speed boats. Sunbeds and parasols are available for hire. There are twice daily boat trips available from the beachfront which travel to Cape Greco and Famugusta.
The family friendly resort centre has a vast array of shops, restaurants and bars, many which are themed. A wide selection of food catering for all tastes are available including fast food, traditional Cypriot cuisine and many other international food such as Mexican, Japanese, Chinese and Indian.
Protaras caters largely for package holidays, which is evident from the large hotels situated along the beach front.
