FIG
TREE BAY |
Figtree
Bay is the most well known beach in the resort of Protaras. The bay
inherited its name from a fig tree which stands a small distance from
the beach. According to legend, the fig tree arrived with Eastern
invaders in the 17th century and has remained in its current spot
ever since. |
Figtree
Bay is a beautiful beach and reported to be one of the best across
the whole of Cyprus. The striking turquoise waters and golden sands
draw thousands of tourists every year and the surrounding location
is full of restaurants, cafes and shops, not to mention the many high
quality hotels which line the shoreline. |
The
sea is shallow and clear, making it ideal for children. A few hundred
metres out to sea is a small rocky island which swimmers frequently
visit to explore. Snorkelling is also popular here.
|
There
are many water sports on offer at Figtree Bay including parasailing,
water skiing, jet skiing and many varieties of inflatable rides. The
beach is serviced by a lifeguard between 10am and 6pm. |
